Gravesend Public School is situated on the Gwydir Highway 55km east of Moree and 25 km west of Warialda. It has a school population of approximately 30 students and prides itself on being a well resourced, inclusive, community centred school.

The school has two multi stage classes and a well equipped library. These classes are supported by a part time teacher, two full time teachers' aides, a part time senior school assistant and general assistant.

The village has a population of approximately 180. A Post office, Hotel and General Store service the community. Other facilities include the recreation and rodeo ground, a hall and community centre and a park with play equipment. The Gwydir River provides excellent fishing, camping, picnic and recreation areas.
